This week is a continuation of last week where I'm sharing some of my seasonal craftiness. I always have such grand ideas when it comes to the holidays, yet somehow it never comes to fruition. Gosh darn it people, I'm changin' my ways. Keeping this commitment by sharing it on the blog was a strategic move. Not sure I would have kept it otherwise. I'm glad I did, it's been fun creating things for the house. It's also been good content for inspiring other ideas. I'm convinced the more you indulge in being creative the more you want to explore. On that note, here's a bit of what I've been working on...
The above photo is a view of the stockings I made for myself and my husband. Not sure if we'll use them but I've always wanted some personal stockings to hang. I kept his simple and nature themed of course and mine is a bit more feminine. I've been addicted to the colors I used on my stocking for the past year. So don't be surprised if you find them in my upcoming wall hangings. You'll see them in the below projects as well. Addicted!
I put these cards together with one of my favorite printing techniques, Block Printing or also called Linoleum Printing. I first learned about this in my 6th grade art class. It's basically printing on linoleum sheets that you carve with specific tools. These cards are an example of a simple design, but you can go as detailed as you want. As long as you have a steady hand and patients the possibilities are endless. My hope is to eventually incorporate more printing techniques into my wall hangings. I absolutely love everything about print work!
Well, I'm not totally finished with the above project, but enough to share. This is something that I plan to hang above my dining table for holidays. It's based off of the advent wreaths dating back thousands of years. It's been used in many cultures symbolizing many things. Personally, I don't have any particular reason to display it other than aesthetics. I know, boring. Anyway, I plan to add more greenery and a string of cranberries as it gets closer to Christmas eve. In the meantime, I think it turned out pretty good and enjoyed making it. Maybe I'll take a photo once it's done and hanging.
Thoughts for next week: More projects! Food and drinks are on the checklist...sounds dangerous.
Hope you guys have a great weekend - J
