Give and take

I think the aging process is a give and take situation. Your youth may be lost over time, but life gives you so much in return. To me, there's really no other way to look at it. It's going to happen, so why not choose the more encouraging perspective. Plus, I wouldn't take a heaping pile of hundred dollar bills to go back to my 20's!! I don't mean that offensively, it just wasn't my decade...yes, the whole decade. Nevertheless, I survived and I'm better for it. That being said, I'll be turning 41 on Sunday and feeling rather optimistic. I think I feel that way because 40 treated me kindly. I'm hoping I can ride the coattails of this last year into this coming year. In the meantime, I thought I'd share some of the highlights of being 40. Mainly because I love a good list, but also because it's worth sharing. Gosh darn it, aging doesn't get the credit it deserves! That being said, here is my little list of encouragement....

I decided to represent this list through photos rather than words, and there's a few specific reasons why. (1) I'm not somebody that likes to share photos of myself. (2) These photos display who, what, and where I've been. (3) Because this year has truly been about honoring myself, and I don't say that selfishly but wholeheartedly. In previous years I was becoming a bit detached from myself physically and emotionally. Needless to say, I was long overdue for a change. I think I speak for many when it comes to these circumstances, especially women. Thankfully, I started recognizing the signs and heeding the warnings.

Turning 40 has been a positive experience for me and I'm grateful for all the lessons I've learned. I'm hoping for more of the same in coming years. Planning to do everything I can to make it happen. Seeing life for what it is, as opposed to what is expected, has become my golden rule. Life is limitless and there's really so many possibilities...
